The Practice Tab

The Practice tab is a place where you can begin your journey to math success. It displays links to each specific grade or level page, along with links to a selection of skills that page includes.

Note: If you have an account, sign in before practicing math if you want to bypass the 20-problem limit, access the game board, earn awards, and ensure your work is stored in the system. To do this, enter your username and password in the fields at the top of the screen and click Sign in.

To see all skills in a grade or level, click the button for all skills for it.
To select one of the skills, click on it.
To view a report of completed work in a skill, click the reports icon for that skill. The reports icon resembles a small bar graph.
If IXL displays a notice at the top of the Practice tab while you are practicing math, informing you that you have won a prize, click Go to the game board.
To hear the text of a pre-k, Kindergarten, or first grade math problem or its answers, click the speaker icon. This feature helps younger students who may not have developed reading skills yet. Note that you must turn up the volume on your computer to use this feature.
To view your current score while you are practicing, see the scoring section on the right side of the screen. IXL uses the SmartScore technology, which is IXL's proprietary scoring algorithm. SmartScore gives you the best possible information on your performance, based on such factors as the number of problems completed, number of problems correct and incorrect, problem difficulty, and consistency.
