IXL Math has become an essential learning tool in our secondary math courses. We use the feedback IXL provides to students and teachers to spiral in previous skills, access previous knowledge, and reinforce recently learned concepts. It has been especially valuable during distance learning. The personalized feedback from IXL allows teachers to progress monitor student growth during asynchronous learning, freeing up time for them to focus daily live synchronous virtual learning.
I cannot imagine teaching without IXL. I use IXL for homework, small group work, assessments, remediation, and enrichment for both math and language arts.
This is an amazing product. My students not only know when they are doing a problem correctly or not, but they are helping each other. If they do not get it correct, there are steps to follow to do the problem correctly next time. It's the dream for teachers, come to fruition!
I have seen huge growth in all of my students. What is great is that all of my students are growing. My students who started testing at a 2nd grade level are now doing 4th grade skills, and my students who were testing at an 8th grade level are now doing algebra-level skills. We use IXL for 30 minutes every day and I can trust that every student is growing.
When I assign an IXL lesson, I can let kids work together because they cannot cheat. Each student has a different problem but the same concept. I love overhearing the students helping each other and working out the solution together.
I love the adaptive ability and instant feedback and problem explanations. Because students have different problems even when they are practicing the same skill, it encourages them to work together rather than just copying answers. IXL allows me to give students significantly more practice problems that are appropriate to their skill level - kids appreciate the differentiation!
The ribbon and medal reward system is very effective in providing my students with the motivation to work through skills. Most students really enjoy showing me what they've earned. That is especially true for students who struggle with algebra. IXL is also very user friendly. I rarely have students come to me for help with the interface.
