We asked parents to share the unique IXL strategies that help their kids become confident, curious learners. Explore their stories and get inspired by ways you can use IXL in your home!
My son is in elementary school now. He practices his math and language arts almost every evening for about 15 minutes, which is not long, but provides an easy and enjoyable way to go over a large number of problems. Usually he works on the topics he learns at school to master his skills, and he has excellent results. All A's honor roll! He also uses IXL to prepare for Standards of Learning tests. He likes to receive awards and always shows me what he got today. I would advise using IXL regularly to make it an everyday routine, and you will be surprised with your child's progress.

My children have always been homeschooled and IXL serves as the basis for our math curriculum, to make sure we are studying everything required for each level. They work on a few sections every day — usually a variety of easy & hard so we don't get too bogged down with something that may be more strenuous or frustrating. I find it easier to check on progress than having to check worksheets or a workbook. Just browse each section to find something they need specific help on, or start near the top & work your way through a whole subject. They love the explanations that show them what went wrong! It makes learning so much easier.

I recommend IXL to everyone. There is so much information to learn! We practice some problems without putting in an answer and press "Submit". Then we read the explanations and discuss them. After doing a handful of problems this way, the children do the problems without me. If a school assignment is tricky, they do exercises in IXL to reinforce the learning. My children have gained confidence in themselves and have learned that they are capable of learning.
Read moreI will let my son choose two to three exercises or recommend that he does 45 min to an hour of daily practice. We use the Scores section to keep tabs on the progress. I also review the questions that are missed to understand my child's grasp on the subject or topic. My children love the IXL awards that they get when they complete a few exercises. This is the most worthy investment that a parent can ever make to ensure academic progress. Consistent practice and completion of curriculum resulted in great test scores in standardized tests.

We use IXL for homeschooling. We use it almost every day. My kids have to do a few lessons a day; each day is a bit different depending on how hard a concept is. I love the Analytics because I can let my kids be a little bit more independent in what they are learning for the day and watch their progress. I know they need help in something if they have answered a lot of problems and did not ask my help, and I can step in and see those problem areas. Thank you IXL for helping to make it much easier to homeschool.
Read moreThank you for increasing my son's interest in math and other associated areas. My son uses IXL from time to time in 1–2 hour sessions. He chooses what to work on, based off of what he wants to learn or what he's doing in school. Favorite features are the ability for parents to log in and check their child's progress and the awards and medals the child gets after learning new skills. I keep him motivated by each IXL grade he completes, we take him out for dinner.
Read moreOur goal is to complete and achieve excellence in all the skills before the school year is over. This can be achieved by practicing 1 skill a day in each subject. Achieving excellence in a skill is the goal, not how much time spent. We practice the same skills being taught at school as much as possible. My favorite feature is being able to track the activities – when, what, and score. I keep my children motivated by rewarding them with game time or TV time daily and weekly, with another final reward promised for completing all the skills for the school year.
Read moreMy youngest daughter loves IXL and utilizes it to review and learn new skills. It keeps her challenged and engaged. We use IXL for Math, Language arts, Science, Social studies, and Spanish at least 3 days per week. She has completed the Language arts through 12th grade already simply because she loves it. We choose math lessons based on what she is studying. Social studies, Science, and Spanish are free choice supplemental materials.
Read moreIXL has been a great way to review fundamental concepts in math, grammar, and other core areas. We first used it to give the boys experience taking multiple choice tests, which were new for them. Now, we use it to fill in holes where the school has for whatever reason missed a topic. The kids enjoy the points, stickers, prizes, and challenges, and I value the easy-to-use interface and the comprehensive coverage.
Read moreWe use IXL to reinforce the kids' core subject concepts through additional practice and mastery. Our school's math curriculum is GoMath and I like that we have been able to correlate modules to the chapters in the math book. We also turn off the timer to not increase anxiety in the kids. The additional practice works.

My son is a top performer in his year group, and I personally think it's all thanks to his continuous practice on IXL. We try to spend some time on IXL on a daily basis. My son's target is to to do 3 skills in Maths and 2 in English. As a parent, I use the Analytics feature to monitor his progress and use this to motivate him to do more when he has extra time. I highly recommend IXL and always recommend it to other parents when I have the opportunity to do so.
Read moreWe use IXL to prevent summer learning loss and try out different "varieties" of questions. The goal is to try a skill, but we don't worry too much about achieving 100 on a skill. If 100 was not achieved, we stop after 40 questions and try to revise the material later. The virtual prizes are a huge motivation. Apart from all the summer activities, it is good to spend a few minutes everyday on IXL to be ready for the school year. Practice makes perfect.

We use IXL to supplement the children's school work. My son completed all the 1st grade math lessons while he was in Kindergarten. He averaged a lesson per day, and a session only took 5–15 minutes. He completed all the lessons to ensure he knew the material and was ready for the next grade level. The kids are extremely motivated by the stars that are awarded. My kids will gladly do another math lesson if they know it will earn them another star.
Read moreWe use this to check on different concepts and get enough practice. During the summer, it motivates them to answer as much as they can without being overly pressured. My favorite feature is that I can check that they have done their IXL because I get a report of what they did and how well they did it. I keep them motivated by offering a simple reward at the end of the month if they have achieved what they should. It gives me a way to help them practice their lessons and have fun as well.
Read moreWe use IXL to provide a baseline for our kids' learning so we know they are keeping up with their grade levels, and expand further with them on concepts or specific skills where needed. We aim to be using IXL 4 days a week and to complete a number of skills rather than study for a length of time. The children tend to select which skills they want to work on. The kids love to reveal the prizes and awards and this keeps them motivated. As parents we like the fact we can log in in real time and view what they are working on so we can identify problem areas and assist them. Our kids are confident in their abilities to complete their work and have developed IT skills in addition to their Math and English.

We currently use IXL to cover gaps in school work as well as to help strengthen fundamentals of topics being covered in school. My kids typically spend about an hour per session. They usually follow the flow provided within IXL with minimal supervision – however we do pick areas we've noticed weaknesses in, whether through IXL or as feedback from their teachers. My favorite features are the weekly reports and being able to track their progress through detailed data analysis and charts. I also quite like the way it teaches them when they get wrong answers and then reinforces the learning through repetition. My kids enjoy coming back to it often enough to cover downtime from school and also to add to their regular homework.
Read moreMy kids use IXL for their practice in math and language arts. We use it everyday after school, mostly, and just for fun to get them ahead for their school work when they have no homework. We decide what to work on by doing the Diagnostic on IXL, which then gathers the data of what my children still need to work on. Each topic is broken down into sections, making it easier for me to see what exactly they have been working on. Sometimes my kids will stop working on something I gave them to do, and IXL tells me what they stopped on and the number of questions they have done so far. I always keep my children motivated by telling them that by doing this many skills, you will get your phone time or free play, and they always finish so fast.

Normally, almost everyday my kids would use IXL; it is like having their own private teacher. They look forward and work hard to receive the certificates of achievement. I think the programme itself is motivating, so that keeps them encouraged. My 7 year old son said he learns new things from IXL before it is being taught at school. So when it is taught at school, he already knows it and is able to help others in his class. My 5 old daughter said in her own words, "It helps me to learn and it makes me more confident in my work, when my friends need help, I help them when I have finished my work."
Read moreWe've had IXL for over a year. IXL has played a big part in explaining and boosting my children's confidence in most of the topics they practiced. It helps them reinforce what they already learned and understand what they didn't or would like to understand. I encourage them to use it daily for at least an hour. They either work on lessons they took up in class that day, or what they know they will do in their upcoming classes, to have prior knowledge and confidence when they do do that lesson in class, and that gives them an advantage compared to their classmates.
Read moreMy son starts each day with IXL math before eating breakfast and heading to school. My daughter has other flash card websites she warms up on, then completes an IXL math lesson before breakfast. Later in the day she'll work on language arts, then science and social studies if there's something I see to go along with her lessons. My daughter has read numerous books she's found referenced in an IXL lesson. IXL gets her interested, then she goes to the library to check out and read the entire book. We've gone from another product to IXL and both have had an easy time with school.
